Sparks Fly in Italy! Steel Cut for Carnival’s Reimagined, Next-Generation Ship Class: Carnival Destiny

A monumental piece of cruise history has officially come full circle. At the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, Carnival Cruise Line celebrated a massive milestone with the official steel-cutting ceremony for Carnival Destiny—the flagship vessel of an entirely new, next-generation fleet design known as the Ace Class.

Set to debut in the summer of 2029, this brand-new Carnival Destiny is more than double the size of the original 1996 groundbreaker of the same name (which now sails as Carnival Sunshine).

“Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea. With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again, creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun.”

Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line

Reimagining the Concept of “Sea Views”

The ultimate goal of the Ace Class design is to make this the most outward-facing megaship at sea. Instead of feeling boxed into interior corridors, the ship will bring the ocean directly to you using innovative architecture:

  • 4.5 Acres of Glass: Massive, multi-story glass walls will line the public spaces, completely opening up sightlines to the sea.
  • Unprecedented Balconies: A record-breaking ratio of ocean-view balcony cabins.
  • A Reimagined Lanai Deck: Wraparound outdoor promenades redesigned to maximize open-air walking, dining, and lounging directly over the water.

A Fresh Slate: 70% Brand-New Concepts

Perhaps the most shocking revelation from the steel-cutting event is that more than 70% of the venues and attractions on board will be completely new concepts for the Carnival brand. While fan favorites will surely remain, the Ace Class will introduce entirely new ways to dine, drink, and experience live entertainment.
